It is not just a pastime but a thriving institution for photography at Fotografiska. Fotografiska was founded in Stockholm by the Broman brothers, Jan and Per in the year 2010. Since then, the company has expanded its operations to the international market and has offices in London New York and Tallinn.
Fotografiska is mainly focused on the idea of improving people’s awareness around the world through photography. Photographic works presented at the museum are performed by famous and up-and-coming photographers, who work in the genre of documentary and abstract photography. Each exhibition is chosen to evoke an emotion and to give the viewers a different perspective on social, ecological, and cultural issues.
It is for this reason that it can be said that the programming of Fotografiska is unique and different from other photographic centers. Photographing the Streets: A Summer
This summer, they’re presenting a lively street photography festival with two outstanding exhibitions: one of which is the photos of Vivian Maier, an unknown photographer who took candid shots of mid-century city life which draws viewers from all over the world and another of Bruce Gilden’s street photography in New York City which is often described as bold and sometimes provocative.
Besides these shows, there will be several seminars in which photographers of all skill levels can collaborate to improve their skills. It is a perfect time for the photography enthusiasts as the participants will be able to learn street photography from the ground up, including composition, lighting and the ability to capture moments by chance.

A FANTASTIC NEW ERA FOR PHOTOGRAFISKA
Fotografiska New York is ready to move to the next step, after five wonderful years. They are relocating to a larger premises in order to accommodate more guests and to showcase the opulent visions of the artists they host from all over the world as a part of their artistic and business evolution.
During this change, Verōnika Restaurant and Chapel Bar will be closed. They want to assure you that their new location will have food and beverages that will be available for your consumption as you peruse through the programming and exhibitions.
Two must-see exhibitions will be on display in New York City before their September 29th departure from their present location on Park Avenue South: Why These? by famous street photography Bruce Gilden (June 21 – September 29) and Unseen Work by the sadly unknown photographer Vivian Maier (May 31 – September 29).
During the time they were at the Park Avenue South site, they had 48 diverse and significant exhibitions that attracted hundreds of thousands of people from around the world and discussed issues from worldwide to personal ones. Some of them include the first ever photographic work of Daniel Arsham, the first American retrospective show of David LaChapelle, 50 years of hip-hop and Andres Serrano’s infamous series. They have also had the privilege of featuring artists from New York City such as Kia LaBeija, Adrienne Raquel, Martin Schoeller, Pixy Liao, and Ethan James Green and other artists from all over the world such as Tony Gum, Josèfa Ntjam, and Hassan Hajjaj. Currently, there are interesting and mind-boggling exhibitions from Fotografiska in Berlin, Stockholm, Tallinn, and Shanghai.
