Built for Dirt, Daily Driving or Both: My Truck-and-SUV Upgrade List With Tire Agent

Rubber and rims are the two upgrades that change how a vehicle looks, feels and handles. Here is how I’d approach both at Tire Agent, an online retailer that sells tires and wheels in one place.

If you drive a truck, a Jeep or a family SUV, the questions are always the same: how much of my driving is off-pavement, what do I want it to look like, and what can I afford this month? A shop will push you toward whatever is on the shelf. An online retailer lets you compare, so let me walk through how I’d plan it.

Step 1: Decide what the vehicle actually does

Before you look at a single photo, answer one question honestly: is this a weekend trail rig, a daily commuter with attitude, or a family hauler? The answer decides everything else. Tire Agent’s blog has guides that cover the main choices, including All-Season Tires for SUVs and Crossovers, Guide to Mud Terrain Tires for Trucks, Jeeps and SUVs and 10 of the Best SUV Performance Tires for 2026. They are a good way to understand the trade-offs before you spend.

Step 2: Pick wheels that match the vehicle

Wheels are where the personality comes from. Tire Agent lists a large wheel selection, and its blog has buying guides for the most popular builds: Best Aftermarket Wheels for Trucks, Best After-Market Rims for Your Jeep Wrangler, Upgrade Your BMW: 7 Rim Brands Worth Considering and Guide to UTV and ATV Aftermarket Rims / Wheels.

Don’t skip fitment. The site has a guide explaining wheel offset and how to choose it for new rims, and another on tire load index. Offset affects how the wheel sits in the arch, and load index tells you how much weight a tire can carry. Read both, and check the size and rating for your exact vehicle before you order.

Step 3: Check the rebates before you buy

Rebates can take a real bite out of a set of four tires. As of 26 October 2026, the deals page lists, among others:

  • Mickey Thompson: $100 back on a set of four select tires, valid through 11/15/26, claim by 12/31/26.
  • BFGoodrich: $80 back, valid through 11/30/26.
  • Goodyear: up to $100 back, valid through 11/30/26.
  • Kumho: a $120 discount applied automatically at checkout, through 11/30/26 (a separate $80 Kumho rebate ends 10/31).

Rebates apply to select tires only, so confirm that your model is eligible. The current wheel rebates on the page have ended, so I wouldn’t count on one for rims. Tire Agent also runs a referral program offering a $25 gift card for each friend who makes a first purchase.

Step 4: Choose how it gets on the vehicle

This is the part that used to stop me from buying online. At checkout you choose where the order goes:

  • To an installer from Tire Agent’s network of 2,000+. It ships to the shop, and you call to book the fitting.
  • To your home, with a mobile installer where available.
  • To your home, and you install it yourself. Some manufacturer warranties require professional installation, so check first.

Shipping is free to continental U.S. addresses, with in-stock tires targeted for 2 to 4 business days. The page doesn’t list installation prices, so ask your installer.

Step 5: Plan the payment

A full set of tires and wheels adds up fast. Besides standard checkout, Tire Agent accepts Affirm, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Afterpay and Cash App Pay, and offers PayPair, a single application matched to several partner payment plans for U.S. residents. Many of these are lease-to-own, and the site itself says that costs more than paying cash, so use them with care.

Back-up plan: returns are accepted within 30 days for unused, unmounted tires and wheels. You cover return shipping (the site estimates $25 to $40 per tire) unless the return is Tire Agent’s error. Road hazard protection is available at checkout in most states.

My short version

Start with how you really drive, pick the tire that fits, then choose wheels you’ll still like in three years. Compare the current rebates, choose an installer, and plan the payment so the upgrade doesn’t become a burden. Tire Agent puts tires, wheels, deals and delivery on one site, which makes that process a lot less work.
