DutchGrown is run by two brothers named Ben and Pete. they’d like to introduce ourselves and share their background with you. The dynastic history of this family spans over a century and a half. A family feud that has been going on for four generations, three centuries, two continents, and counting. This is the tale that led to their company becoming one of the oldest and most reputable exporters of flower bulbs in the Netherlands.
It’s been four generations, and both Pete and Ben are now living in Europe. Pete had been working on the web side of the business for 15 years in the United States while Ben was honing his substantial skills in Ben’s native Netherlands.
They focus on what they’re good at. Ben is both an expert on flower bulbs and a natural leader. He knows every grower in the Netherlands like the back of his hand, is great at making connections, and is always willing to answer inquiries from customers.
Pete is the technical whiz who has been designing websites for more than 20 years; he is the driving force behind the success of DutchGrown. His ability to connect with others and get out of his basement to meet clients belie his reputation as a computer nerd. He and Ben spend a lot of time on the road attending flower bulb expos and shows throughout the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom, where they get to know their customers and develop lasting relationships with them.
In 1882, their great-grandfather started the Rotteveels down their current course. After learning the trade on the family farm in the Netherlands, he moved on to market bulbs to local producers in Germany. Their great-grandfather was one of the first people to bring flower bulbs from Holland to the United States; he left for New York by ship after a year of opportunity, ambition, and adventure. Their grandfather and father followed in his footsteps, expanding the family business into international flower bulb exports. They were immensely successful without ever sacrificing attention to detail or concern for their customers.
