About Luke 1977

From its modest origins in the West Midlands in 2001, Luke has grown into a top modern menswear brand with a worldwide fanbase. Having developed with the help of important independent menswear retailers, the brand has naturally maintained all of its values, which distinguishes it.

Luke is a pragmatic view of modern menswear, with all the elements of the modern lad, a gentleman from the working class hero. Strong inspirations for the brand come from the challenging aspects of Birmingham, where it was born. Foundry worker meets fashionable; Luke’s taste covers all. Luke’s philosophy is to modernise any man’s apparel fashionably without overdesign to maintain a cool manly style. The brand presents a special look for Luke’s United Kingdom, an inclusive nation.

Luke Roper, the son of a gifted dressmaker mother and hard-working father, started life in Walsall Wood in the West Midlands. By 12 he discovered he had a talent for football and sewing machines; by 15 he was making one off shirts for his friends; soon he became a local legend, lads from all over the area ordering his unique designs and creations; then hitting the clubs of the wild West Midlands decked out in Luke’s original especially crafted pieces.

London called at 20; the top fashion university in the nation, St Martins, saw his skills and degree in menswear design. Here Luke developed his talents and developed a strategy with lifetime buddy Simon Poole; an idea to create the top menswear company in the United Kingdom was born. Luke paired up with Deborah Poole to launch the budding company and set off the adventure on graduation.

The company operates with the same values it began with more than twenty years back. Luke’s creative approach to fashion combined with excellent quality and limited distribution channels helps them to remain leaders in British design.
