There’s no doubt that Into the Blue has good reason to cherish its heritage. As a young child, I accompanied my father, Jock Maitland, to Biggin Hill. I spent many happy hours exploring the old pill boxes and blast pens after he opened Biggin Hill to the public in 1958 as a civilian airfield. A while later, I teamed up with him to help manage the annual Biggin Hill Air Fair.
After realizing that many of the showgoers were secretly hoping for a chance to “have a go” themselves, I began collaborating with well-respected figures in the aviation industry to develop the concept for Into the Blue. Twenty years later, they’ve expanded beyond recognition, and they owe that growth largely to the fact that they’ve always been a family-run business focused on their employees, with excellent relationships established with their vendors, and with a commitment to treating their customers fairly and respectfully.
